Working pattern: 4 on 4 off – 7AM–7PM / 7PM–7AM

THE ROLE:
Carbon60 is recruiting an experienced Facilities Manager / Assistant Estates Manager (Shifts) to support and lead engineering maintenance across the Queen Elizabeth Hospital estate. This role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient operation of critical systems within a complex healthcare environment.
You will oversee shift-based engineering teams, deliver planned and reactive maintenance, ensure compliance with HTMs and contractual KPIs, and act as a key operational interface with NHS Trust stakeholders.
This position is central to maintaining essential services for University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB), the Mental Health Unit, and the wider retained NHS estate.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operational & Technical Leadership
- Oversee and deliver site activity across a large, complex healthcare estate.
- Manage shift operations, performance, and resource allocation across a 4-on-4-off pattern.
- Ensure all PPM, testing, fault diagnosis, and reactive repairs are completed to HTM, statutory, and contractual standards.
- Support Authorised Person/Competent Person activities (LV/HV/MGPS/Ventilation, etc.) as required.
- Provide first-line incident response to emergencies, service failures, and non-compliance events.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years management experience within NHS, PFI, or similar critical infrastructure environment.
- Strong knowledge of engineering maintenance, healthcare estates, and HTM compliance.
