ROLE: Maintenance Mechanical Engineer

PAY RATE: £ 21.74 PAYE

JOB TYPE: 3 Months contract - Potential Temporary to Permanent Opportunity

LOCATION: Colchester, Essex, UK (CO4)

HOURS: 40 hours per week - 08:00 AM to 17:00 PM

Major Roles & Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on mechanical building services.
  • Diagnose faults and complete mechanical repairs and replacements with minimal supervision.
  • Service and maintain commercial pumps, pump sets, booster sets, expansion vessels and pressurisation units.
  • Maintain HVAC, LTHW, heating, ventilation, plumbing and domestic water systems.
  • Carry out water hygiene and Legionella control activities in line with ACOP L8/HSG274.
  • Undertake temperature monitoring, TMV inspections, flushing, water sampling support, tank inspections and shower descaling/disinfection.
  • Respond promptly to plant breakdowns, emergencies and callouts.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and statutory compliance documentation.
  • Work safely in occupied environments and follow RAMS, permits to work and safe systems of work.
  • Work independently or as part of a wider mechanical/electrical/fabric maintenance team.
  • Assist and provide guidance to trainees, apprentices and junior maintenance staff when required.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours call-out rota.

Mandatory Requirements
  • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent mechanical qualification.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Enhanced DBS required.
  • Strong experience in mechanical building services maintenance.
  • Experience working within a commercial building maintenance or facilities management environment.
  • Proven experience with PPM and reactive mechanical maintenance.
  • Experience servicing and maintaining: Pumps / pump sets, Expansion vessels, Pressurisation units, Booster sets, HVAC mechanical plant, LTHW systems, Pipework and distribution systems.
  • Water hygiene / Legionella experience is essential.
  • Good knowledge of ACOP L8 and HSG274.
  • Experience with water hygiene activities such as temperature monitoring, TMVs, flushing, water sampling, tank inspections and disinfection.
  • Ability to fault-find, diagnose and repair mechanical systems independently.
  • Experience working safely within occupied buildings/commercial facilities.
  • Understanding of risk assessments, permits to work and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to complete maintenance and compliance documentation.
  • Willingness to participate in an out-of-hours call-out rota.
