ROLE: Multi Skilled Engineer
PAY RATE: £ 16.92 to £ 22.05 PAYE
JOB TYPE: 3 Months contract - Temporary to Permanent
LOCATION: Birmingham, UK (B15)
HOURS: 37.50 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 12:00 PM to 20:00 PM
THE ROLE: Main duties & responsibilities:
Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault finding, testing, and repairs on mechanical and/or electrical building services.
Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely, on time, and in compliance with HTMs, statutory regulations, and KPIs.
Update maintenance records accurately using CAFM and other digital maintenance management systems.
Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergencies, ensuring service levels and response times are achieved.
Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and maintenance instructions to complete work independently.
Maintain plant rooms, workshops, tools, and equipment in a safe, clean, and organised condition.
Support lifecycle planning by providing accurate plant and equipment information.
Work across different clinical environments, including operating theatres, A&E, ITU, mortuary, mental health units, and retained estate buildings when required.
Support operational delivery across the hospital estate and undertake additional reasonable duties as instructed by the Estates Management Team.
Work closely with hospital stakeholders and engineering teams to maintain safe and reliable building services.
Essential skills / experience / qualifications:
Completed an Indentured Apprenticeship or equivalent recognised engineering training.
AM2 qualification is mandatory, unless the apprenticeship was completed before the AM2 requirement was introduced (Approved Electricians only).
Ability to carry out planned maintenance, reactive repairs, fault finding, and testing independently.
Experience using CAFM or similar maintenance management systems.
Good understanding of Health & Safety regulations, HTMs, CDM regulations, and statutory compliance.
Willingness to work across different hospital departments, including clinical and high-dependency areas.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Desirable: ONC or National Certificate in a relevant engineering discipline.
Desirable: HNC/HND or Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
Desirable: City & Guilds 2394/2395 Testing & Inspection.
Desirable: Authorised Person (AP) qualifications (LV/HV, MGPS, Mechanical Systems, Ventilation).
Desirable: Minimum five years' LV and/or HV experience. Willingness to travel across Birmingham, Loughborough, Derby, Northampton, Worcester and Wolverhampton.
Willingness to participate in an on-call rota and occasional out-of-hours work.
